Topographically, the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) commonly known as ‘Parbotto Chattagram’ is the only hill intensive area of Bangladesh. It is  completely different in physical features,  landscapes, agricultural practices and soil conditions from the rest of Bangladesh. The tracts are situated about 60km (37 mi) east of Chittagong. CHT includes three separate districts : Rangamati, Khagrachari, and Bandarban. This region comprises a mass of hills, ravines and cliffs covered with dense jungle, bamboo creepers and shrubs, and have four main valleys formed by the Karnafuli, Feni, Shangu and Matamuhuri rivers. The valleys are covered with green, deep forest which has made CHT an enigmatic beauty. The highest peaks on the northern side are Thangang, Langliang and Khantiang and on the southern side the highest peaks are Ramu, Taung, Keekradang, Tajingdong (4632 ft, highest in Bangladesh), Mowdok Mual, Rang tlang and Mowdok Tlang.

Different species of trees are found in CHT, which has made the land so attractive and lively. Not only the trees and mountains but also the fauna of CHT has made it a very unique place. The wild elephant, Imperial Pigeon, Green Pigeon, White winged wood-duck, Maina, Bhimraj etc. also have created an unique characteristics of CHT.

Another attraction of CHT is the inhabitants of this region. Most of them are tribal. there are different tribal groups in CHT. Among them Chakma, Murang, Marma, Lushai, Kuki are the main aboriginal groups. They are very hard working and self-reliant. In the matriarchal society of these aboriginal people, women folks are more hard working than men folk. They can weave their own clothes and make lovely handicrafts. The simple way of living and of CHT’s hospitable tribal people is alone enough to conquer tourists mind.
